The Doctor of Philosophy degree represents outstanding scholarly attainment, signifies a capacity for independent study, and is primarily a degree aiming at research and teaching. A successful candidate for the PhD degree must show convincing evidence of capacity to pursue scholarly research or scholarship in her or his field of study on a scale which can be completed during three years of full-time research. The results of this research must then be embodied in a thesis of not more than 100,000 words, which makes an original contribution to knowledge and the completed thesis must contain material of a standard appropriate for publication.
Requirements for admission
Persons who intend to apply for admission to a PhD program should have a bachelors and masters degree in the relevant field of study from an internationally recognized institution. Applications for PhD study must be accompanied by a statement outlining intended research project.
